The Fibre Co Knigtsbridge

We are excited to expand our Fibre Co line to include the new Knightsbridge. Knightsbridge is a luxurious heathered yarn made from a variety of dyed fibers that are lightly blended prior to spinning giving it a traditional tweed appearance. The fiber qualities of Knightsbridge include the soft, lightweight, and insulating properties of baby llama, the finest grade of merino wool for bounce and memory and the natural luster of silk. This light worsted weight yarn provides excellent stitch definition and is perfect for fresh modern garments and accessories evoking classic traditions and distinctive style.

• 65% baby llama, 25% merino wool + 10% silk
• 120 yds/ 50 gram skein
• 20-22 sts = 4 inches on US 5-6 needle

© Kelbourne Woolens + The Fibre Company

There are too many gorgeous projects out there to narrow it down to just one. Actually, we want to make them all! Below is a quick glance at our top three favorite patterns to inspire you. Stop by the Yarns By Design Boutique to choose from our many colors of Knightsbridge for your next project.

Maeve by Bristol Ivy
Maeve is knit in two pieces. It begins with the cable panel, then stitches are cast on and the body and cable panel are worked at the same time. Once both pieces are complete, a 3 needle bind-off is used to join the two pieces together in the center back. The body hems and panels are then seamed, and stitches for the ribbing are picked up and worked in the round for the sleeves. An applied i-cord is worked around the body opening to complete the sweater.

© Kelbourne Woolens + Amanda Stevenson Lupke

Teegan by Courtney Kelley
Teegan is worked in the round from the top down with raglan increases. The Clove Pattern is worked in panels on the front, back, and sleeves. You will be placing markers to identify the increase points and the Clove Stitch panels.

© Kelbourne Woolens + Amanda Stevenson Lupke

Gillam by Kate Gagnon Osborn
The sleeves of Gillam are knit in the round from the cuff to the armhole, then divided and the sleeve cap is worked back and forth and then seamed into the body during finishing. The body is knit from the bottom up in one piece to the armholes. The front and back are divided and worked separately and joined at the shoulders using a three-needle bind-off. The neckband is then picked up and worked in rounds. When shaping the fronts at the neck and armhole, work all stitches pattern whenever possible. In the case of having insufficient stitches for completing a cable twist or tuck stitch, work these stitches in Stockinette stitch. Due to the nature of the cable and tuck stitch pattern, you may have a different number of stitches on the front and back.

TOSH MERINO LIGHT by Madelinetosh

We are so EXCITED to offer a new line at the boutique for you…MADELINETOSH. All of us have patiently waited and now the fun begins. The second line we are bringing in is TOSH MERINO LIGHT.

Tosh merino light is a 100% superwash merino wool, single-ply fingering weight yarn. With a generous 420 yards per skein, one skein is more than enough yardage to complete a pair of socks and two skeins can complete a full-sized lace project. Each incredibly soft skein is hand-dyed in small dye lots.

Length: 420 yards or 384 meters
Gauge: 6.5 to 7.5 sts per inch

Antler is a cosy every day sweater. Easy to wear with a feminine neckline and nice garter stitch details. Play with color blocking! It is worked top-down in one piece with saddle shoulders and contiguous sleeves. No picked up stitches or sewing is needed. To keep it cosy a wool or wool blend is recommended, which is why we will be making ours with Tosh Merino Light.

Yarn weight: Fingering
Gauge: 22 stitches and 30 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch
Needle size: US6 - 4.0mm and US4 - 3.5mm
Sizes available: XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL

Road To China Light by The Fibre Co.

Road to China Light is a 3-ply strong, soft, shiny and drapey yarn with a lot of body perfect for luxurious, soft and warm items. The unique blend of fibers are spun into a smooth yarn and then kettle dyed, and the different way the fibers absorb the dye creates a beautiful depth of color with subtle heathered tones.

SPECIFICATIONS
65% baby alpaca, 15% silk, 10% camel + 10% cashmere
159 yds/50 gram skein
24-26 sts = 4 inches on US 3-4 Needle

New to our pattern selection is Quince & Co. We are excited to use the Road To China Light for Mainline by Tess Young.

Mainline is all about texture and shape. A simple textured edge to avoid curl, and a raised main stitch; the crescent shaped will hug you around the neck and shoulders.

It is knitted lengthwise from the bottom up which does mean a bit of a mammoth cast on, but if you use markers you can place them each repeat as you cast on, which helps you keep track and not have to count lots of stitches.

Once established, the main pattern is easy to follow from reading your knitting on both right and wrong side and the knitting speeds along. By the time you reach the first set of decreases you’re over half way through your project.

The pattern contains both written and charted instructions and the scarf comprises 18 repeats of the pattern section. You can easily add more sections if you want a longer/wider scarf.

Finished measurements
37 ½” 95 cm wingspan across top edge and 6 ½” 16.5 cm long at points
• One 32” circular needle (circ) in size US 5 3.75 mm
Or size to obtain gauge
• Stitch markers (m)
• Tapestry needle

Gauge
36 sts and 34 rows = 4” 10 cm in twisted stitch pattern,
before blocking
27 sts and 35 rows = 4” 10 cm in twisted stitch pattern,
after blocking.

YBD Knit Club

Members will meet on Saturday, October 4, 10:30-12:00pm and begin working on their first project, Twig by Tiny Owl Knits. This simple, rustic, earthy, cozy cowl with a feather soft inner lining will keep the breeze off of the neck on chilly days. It was agreed to start with this lined cowl.  Looking at its pattern, some members thought that it could be reversible.  Others decided to change it by selecting yarns which have a different gauge and perhaps knit both the outer portion with the lining simultaneously.  Members realized all is possible “if you do the math.”
