Color and Color Combinations:
Our ever popular instructor, Edye VanDyke, has organized a 1 ½ hour seminar on Color and Color Combinations. We will meet on Friday, February 27th from 5:30-7:00pm. The cost is $20/student. Please contact the boutique to register.

Simply defined, color is an element of design. But a powerful element at that! Do you use color to your advantage? Or, how can you best use it?

Color creates impressions, evokes emotions, elicits illusions and provokes moods.

We all have favorite colors and color combinations. When we knit, it is probably the most influential criterion that effects purchase.

Color is personal.  Color, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. But there are guidelines that help overall and enduring satisfaction. We will show examples of color combinations that follow these guidelines and evaluate them.

For knitters who are registered for the Building in Color club, the Simplicity yarn samples will be available to browse and selection of colors will need to be chosen by the end of the seminar.

A triangular shawl for the romantic at heart. Dreamy Valentine features a love heart lace pattern. Wear this as a shawl or wrapped around the neck as a scarf.

This pattern offers both written and charted instructions and is worked from the bottom up.

Choose between a single skein fingering weight or the larger 2 skein sport weight variation. The two fibers we suggest are Spud & Chloe’s Fine (80% wool, 20% silk) or Cascade’s Venezia Sport (70% merino wool, 30% silk).

Dreamy Valentine is also easily adapted to most yarn weights, simply adjust the number of repeats to suit your yardage.

Techniques used are yarn overs, simple decreases and increases with a slightly more complicated Central Double decrease all described in the pattern.

Marble Chunky by James C. Brett is a bulky weight, machine washable, colorful, 100% acrylic yarn with an impressive 341 yards per skein! Marble chunky is a great economical choice for cozy garments, accessories, and home decor projects. It is composed of two contrasting strands plied to create subtle color changes with a tweedy appearance. Flutterby Chunky by James C. Brett is a ridiculously soft, super bulky, machine washable, 100% polyester yarn in sweet baby pastel colors. This yarn is oh so snuggly and perfect for baby blankets and garments! At the Yarns By Design Boutique we have all of the colors available to choose from. The new colors, shown below, will work up beautifully in our many pattern options available at the boutique as well.

Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light

Tosh Merino Light is a 100% superwash merino wool, single-ply fingering weight yarn. With a generous 420 yards per skein, one skein is more than enough yardage to complete a pair of socks and two skeins can complete a full-sized lace project. Each incredibly soft skein is hand-dyed in small dye lots.

Antler by ANKESTRICK
Antler is a cosy every day sweater. Easy to wear with a feminine neckline and nice garter stitch details. Play with color blocking! 
It is worked top-down in one piece with saddle shoulders and contiguous sleeves. No picked up stitches or sewing is needed. To keep it cosy a wool or wool blend is recommended.

I am very excited to begin my new project, Antler by ANKESTRICK, knit with Tosh Merino Light. I am loving this pattern, it is clear to read and broken into sections which encourages me to fly right through the project to accomplish the next section.

January’s mystery KAL is a unisex scarf featuring interesting cables!
Kick off the New Year with a gorgeous cabled scarf – Endgame. The pattern is full of beautiful stitches enhanced by the lovely tweed yarn, HiKoo® Kenzie. Endgame’s unisex design introduces a cast on and bind off new to the series along with other essential techniques. Continue to grow your knitting skills while creating a classic, yet modern, scarf.

Materials:
• HiKoo® Kenzie, 50% New Zealand merino, 25% nylon, 10% angora, 10% alpaca, 5% silk noils, 3(4) skeins – all the same color
• Waste yarn -contrasting color in a similar weight to Kenzie, 10 yards
• US #6 (4mm) needles or size needed to obtain gauge
• US #7 (4.5mm) needles or size needed to obtain gauge
• Cable needle
• Tapestry needle

Size:
Approximately 6 ½” wide, 56 (70)” long.

Gauge:
20 stitches = 4” in stockinette using larger needle.
