THANK YOU...

We would like to thank each and everyone of you for your support and attendance this past weekend at the 11th Annual Pittsburgh Knit and Crochet Festival. We had a blast, to say the least! It was fun seeing familiar faces and meeting new ones. The venue was lovely and the location in downtown Pittsburgh was perfect.

We wish you all much luck on your new projects and encourage you to share pictures on your progress and/or completed project(s) on any of our social media sites.

Below are a few pictures from the past weekend…

Raspberry Ripple Shawlette Kit

Raspberry Ripple takes its name from the way the gently waving edges suggest ripples, the way the bumpy texture of the red silk center panel suggests ripe raspberries, and the way my brain will use any excuse to suggest ice cream. Wear Raspberry Ripple to keep your neck and shoulders warm while enjoying your favorite frozen treat!

© Meghan C. Radick

Raspberry Ripple is a triangular shawlette, knit from the bottom point to the top, with a lace edging on either side of a textured triangular center panel. A handful of colors are available to choose from.

The instructions given are for a shawlette knit with two skeins of Lantern Moon’s Indochine yarn, but the pattern can easily be adapted to any size/weight of yarn. Indochine is a luxurious 100% silk yarn made exclusively for Lantern Moon in a mill in Vietnam. Indochine is the result of working directly with their producer to create a beautiful 100% mulberry silk, spun to their specifications, creating a sport weight yarn that feels wonderful in the hand and makes a luxurious fabric.

The kit is available at Yarns By Design and includes the pattern, 2 skeins of Indochine and a Recycled Paper Yarn Bowl. The creatively made bowl of wrapped recycled paper is the perfect size for a ball of yarn.

Color and Color Combinations

YBD Seminar...

Color and Color Combinations:
Our ever popular instructor, Edye VanDyke, has organized a 1 ½ hour seminar on Color and Color Combinations. We will meet on Friday, February 27th from 5:30-7:00pm. The cost is $20/student. Please contact the boutique to register.

Simply defined, color is an element of design. But a powerful element at that! Do you use color to your advantage? Or, how can you best use it?

Color creates impressions, evokes emotions, elicits illusions and provokes moods.

We all have favorite colors and color combinations. When we knit, it is probably the most influential criterion that effects purchase.

Color is personal.  Color, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. But there are guidelines that help overall and enduring satisfaction. We will show examples of color combinations that follow these guidelines and evaluate them.

For knitters who are registered for the Building in Color club, the Simplicity yarn samples will be available to browse and selection of colors will need to be chosen by the end of the seminar.

Dreamy Valentine KAL

Upcoming KAL...

Dreamy Valentine by Ambah:
Save The Date: Fridays, February 9, 13, 20 and 27 from 6-7pm at the boutique. The cost is $20/student, $6 pattern, and a 10% discount on project yarn. Call today to register.

A triangular shawl for the romantic at heart. Dreamy Valentine features a love heart lace pattern. Wear this as a shawl or wrapped around the neck as a scarf.

This pattern offers both written and charted instructions and is worked from the bottom up.

Choose between a single skein fingering weight or the larger 2 skein sport weight variation. The two fibers we suggest are Spud & Chloe’s Fine (80% wool, 20% silk) or Cascade’s Venezia Sport (70% merino wool, 30% silk).

Dreamy Valentine is also easily adapted to most yarn weights, simply adjust the number of repeats to suit your yardage.

Techniques used are yarn overs, simple decreases and increases with a slightly more complicated Central Double decrease all described in the pattern.
